Cleveland Indians Home Opener

The smell of hot dogs and beer, the roar of the crowd, the crack of the bat, the beat of the Indians bass drum echoing over the stadium. It doesn’t get better than baseball season, and today is our Cleveland Indians Home opener! Cleveland faces off against the Detroit Tigers at 4:10 this evening, but festivities will be under way long before the first pitch.

Downtown will be buzzing with people taking half days or leaving work early to grab a bar seat on east 4th. I will be hanging out at Brickstone on east 9th in the gateway district for a pre-game party hosted by Titos, so come visit!

With all of this excitement downtown it is important to think about how you’re going to get around. You have the usual options available to you including the Cleveland RTA bus and rapid lines, uber, and other taxicab companies. I would recommend any of those options simply because parking prices will be increased just like the number of alcoholic beverages you’ll drink (hotdogs will only sober you up so much). If you do decide to drive down, my best suggestions for parking garages are Tower City, and garage attached to the PNC building on Euclid and 9th (the cheapest garages I know of).

When putting together your game day gear, think about the walking you’ll do, how long you’ll be sitting at the game, how cold it is, and what clothes will endure spills. Though it’s cheesy, I’m going for tribe pride in red, white, and blue. Layering is key as temps should be between 45 and 62 with high wind gusts. There is a 70% chance of rain but it should taper off by the afternoon. A poncho folded into a purse might be a great idea (if you don’t end up wearing it, it can keep your donkey dry if your seat is wet). Pants with stretch and Vans (the shoe company? If so, should be capitalized) will make your day more enjoyable – remember it’s more about fun and less about how you look. Fun and happy is always more sexy than stuffy and trying.

If you haven’t been following the season so far, shutouts have been the trend. Though the major league season began 6 days ago, there have been 13 shutouts! Many people insist it has a lot to do with pitchers feeling feesh and loose while the spring air tends to keep hittrs tight. Regardless of the league, our Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco is top dog so far, pitching 10 strikeouts to shut out the Astros Wednesday night! Other players to watch for include Carlos Santana and Mike Aviles who both hit homers in Houston. The promotional gift at tonight’s game include magnet schedules as well as a set of car magnets courtesy of Progressive Insurance.

Whether you snagged tickets to the game, are cheering the tribe on from a bar, or maxin’ on your couch, make sure you get into this season’s Cleveland Indians. I have a feeling this is our year.
